Maas Metal Polish for tracks

How is it applied? Is it “long term” good?

I use Blue magic and Mothers Mag Wheel polish (any metal polish will work – NOT just MAAS) and apply it using a piece of old HO cork roadbed.

The cork roadbed does not leave lint as a cloth would and is fairly stiff so it keeps from getting the polish on the sides of the rail.

The last time I polished my rails was back in July of 2003. So that is going on 3 years now and I can go down and fire up the layout any time and the sound engines never miss a note!

I am still building my layout so scenery is ongoing. I just wipe up around the area I am doing scenery on and keep on running trains.

Others on these forums state they do not have the same results! I am just happy that I do not have to do ANY track cleaning as I had to before (weekly) the metal polish application.

I use a cloth warapped around a Bright Boy; swabs at turnouts.

Lasts about a year for me (basement in NY using a dehumidifier in summer). This is for unused rails: run trains very rarely, still building layout. MAAS reapplied when shine dulls.
