Does anyone know what happened to the DMIR’s locomotive Madame Queen?
It was an articulated mallet I believe[%-)]
The locomotive called “Madame Queen” I am familiar with is Santa Fe 2-10-2 #5000. Used over the Raton Pass around 1946.
Don’t know if there is any connection other than the name or not.
Actually, Santa Fe #5000 was a 2-10-4. http://atsf.railfan.net/atsfpres/atsf5000.jpg

Don’t know its exact number - believe either 220 or 222, but for sure I can say that it has been scrapped - late 1940s or a bit later because of the advent of the 2-8-8-4s.
I believe the Missabe’s “Madame Queen” was 2-8-8-2 no. 210. It was blt for the Duluth Missabe and Northern in 1916, rebuilt (changed from compound to simple expansion) in the 30’s, and retired in 1958. It would have been scrapped sometime after that, but some DMIR engines didn’t get scrapped until like 1967.

Unfortunately I just moved to a new house Saturday, so all my RR books are still in boxes so I’m going by memory and the Missabe RR Hist. Soc. website. [:I]
