Made a good haul today!

I just got back from the LHS in Alexandria (not so local). I made out like a fat rat! I got 2 Athearn RS3’s for $30 and 2 Athearn F7A’s for $40. That’s like half price on all of them.

Jeff

What is the name of the LHS?

I live in S’port and go through Alex every now and then.

Well, I’m glad one of us was lucky today. I demured over the holidays about a returned PRR T1 at BLI’s Outlet Direct that was listed on 18 Dec. I got the thumbs-up yesterday after finally succumbing to temptation, but it had been sold.

Those PCM Big Boys are attractively priced at the moment, but I’d have to add sound and then find a place to plunk it in my already small yard. Running it would present no problem, but, I already have a behemoth on my layout, the Lionel Challenger.

I guess I’ll wait for the second run of the T1’s, maybe in 2008? From Outlet Direct, of course.

Good show, Jeffrey.

Hare’s Art & Hobby on Lee Street. It’s in the old Car Care Auto Parts building.

When I was stationed at Fort Polk (96-98) I went to Hare’s now and then. Also, when I had reason to go up to Barkesdale AFB in Shreveport, I’d hit Cook’s Collector’s Corner. Is that still open?

Mr.Cook died suddenly of a heart attack about 3-4 years ago. His wife sold everything off, including the caboose that sat in front of the store. The sign is still up, but just an empty building. I was out of the hobby at the time, imagine my surprise when I pulled up to an empty store. [:(] I now travel to Longview TX to go to an LHS ( Homers ) , without a doubt the best LHS I have ever been in. His stock is absolutely amazing. Mr. Homer told me what happened to Mr. Cook.

Thanks for the info Jeff. I try and stop by that LHS next time through.

Oh, what a shame. They had a nice store with some neat stuff. My condolences to the family.

I just got a good look at the 4 locos I picked up. They’re all in fairly good shape and run well. Both F7’s are SP (Daylight & Bloody Nose), the RS3’s are Santa Fe (blue-yellow) and SP (Black Widow).

Congratulations –

You not only got very lucky on the prices, but you have very good taste in road names…
