"made in slovenia", who is the manufacturer?

I recently acquired an HO scale engine, and I would like to identify the manufacturer. I don’t think the engine has any particular value; I am just curious. I believe the engine is an E8/E9, and the only information that I can find are the words “made in Slovenia” on the bottom of the fuel tank. Only the rear axles are powered, and there are rubber tires on 2 of the 3 wheels along one side. Any information will be appreciated.

Probably a company named “Mehano” which makes engines that are imported by IHC (Formerly AHM).

It is Mehano alright. You can access their web site in English and will find most of the IHC product line listed. They stopped making the E8 a few years ago. It was rather a liteweight as I recal and does not have a lot of pulling power.

Not a lot! It has none. One of my cousins had one.

I’ve got a 040 Mehano with sound and smoke. It runs pretty well with my short excursion train. It runs smoother with a knob throttle.

Correction: Not that it matters but my Mehano is a 440 Atlantic not an 040. Sorry for the typo. And by knob throttle I’m making the comparison between my Lenz 100 push button throttle (which I really like) and and the knob on my Atlas Commander Throttle.

Jerry

Actually, an Atlantic is a 4-4-2. The 4-4-0 is an American. Sorry to have to correct you.[:)]

Darth Santa Fe:

Thanks. You’re sure right. First a finger typo, then a mental “typo”! I guess I had better proof read more carefully.
