Made in the US

Which model locos and other rolling stock are made in the USA?
Accurail I know.

Bowser – both locomotives and rolling stock have always been made in the USA.

Other than Accurail and Kadee, I can’t think of any others that haven’t moved production to China –

Did Athearn move production to China? I thought Athearn was made in the U.S.

Red Caboose molds are still in the USA. Apparently, they cast the parts here, container 'em and ship them to China for assembly. The kits are packaged here.

All of Tichy’s stuff is still made here, as are all of the resin manufacturer’s offerings.

Other than Bowser/Stewart, I don’t know of any other engines that ARE made in the USA.

Athearn Genesis and RTR locomotives are made in China, as are practically all of their RTR rolling stock. I think their Blue Box kits are still be made in the US.

Hobbytown of Boston and Tiger Valley both make locomotive kits.

I think Intermountain does this too.

I heard that Tichy was swallowed up by Intermountain…Is this true?

Kato is made in Japan. Before Roco went under, some Lifelike, Concor and Walthers were made in Austria. Some Stewart and BLI were made in Korea (Ajin). Even in the old days, Athearn motors were made in the orient, so don’t get too hung up on made in the USA. Besides, your " American" car probably has parts made all over the world.

I don’t think so - I saw them at Timonium this past weekend and didn’t see any indication that they’ve changed hands. But maybe I missed it…

Hobbytown is centered in Boston? I’ve never seen any of their products

I think Athearn-MDC/Roundhouse Make Half Their Equipment Here and the Other Half Overseas.

I think the smaller kit manufacturers are still in the U.S. - LaBelle Woodworking, Ye Olde Huff n Puff, Funaro and Camerlengo, etc.

Hobbytown of Boston has changed hands a couple of times and is now with the Bear Locomotive Group and is no longer in Boston

As long it’s good quality and detail, why care where it is made??
Best regards

Folks, don’t go you get mad with me but the Brazilian Frateschi has stated that Atlas learnt to make rail car trucks with them… So it is possible to hear that Roco learnt to make model electric locomotives with them too! To be a nationalist, yes, but not that fanatic!!! I own consider Atlas’ rail car trucks superior to Frateschi’s.

To the best of my knowledge all Athearn Genesis and Athearn RTR are made in China while all Athearn Blue Box (kits) are made in the USA (appearently with the exception of the motors). Also, some Con-Cor stuff is made in the USA. I just bought a couple of their mechanical reefers, they were made here. I do not recall seeing Branchline Trains on here. It seems like they make their stuff in the USA.

There are also small manufacturers like Eel River Models that make stuff in the USA and are not listed in the Walthers catalog. The only cars they make models of are the 60’ Pacific Car & Foundry RBLs (insulated boxcars) built from the late 1960s to the 1980s (the prototypes, not the models).

While they do not make rolling stock, Pikestuff and Rix Products are also made in the USA. Probably most of the companies that make detail parts also make their stuff in the USA.

On a related note, a couple of months ago I bought a Herpa truck decorated for Weyerhaeuser. I noticed it was made in Canada by Promotex.

Hobbytown of Boston (the company name, formerly the location) is now owned by Bear Locomotive Co in Whiting,NJ, just south of Fort Dix. The owner is Howard Mosley

No. Tichy and IM are two different companies. The owner of Tichy doesn’t want to crank out his car kits as assembled, decorated RTR products, but is more than happy to sell them to IM to do so. That’s why IM is selling Tichy cars under their own brand name.
