Can any of you guys tell me the years that Madison cars were used? Also does any company make passenger cars with the Erie RR name on them?
Thanks,
Paul

Williams has made passenger cars in Erie livery.
I would check with some of the large Williams Dealers like Ma & Pa Junction, and e-bay.

Paul,
“Madison Cars” or more appropriately “Irvington Cars” are models of typical “heavyweight” steel passenger cars of the early 20th Century. The received the term “heavyweight” after the introduction of the lighter-weighing stainless steel cars in the 1930’s. They were in service in many forms from the 1910’s when they replaced the wood-sheathed cars through the 1950’s. Their early appeal was that they were built to withstand “telescoping” in accidents. For this reason they had reinforced vestibules and frames.
The term “Madison Car” was invented by Williams Reproductions in the 1970’s to describe their line of reproductions of Lionel “Irvington Cars”. With the exception of the light wiring on the some early examples, they were good reproductions.
To date, Lionel has made these cars in three body styles: coach, baggage, and Obs. Williams too has made these cars. Lionel introduced the smaller, O-27 sized “Baby Madison” cars in 1973, and with many improvements remain in the line to this day.

Thanks for the info, I did find the Williams cars at Ma and Pa junction, but I don’t care for the cars with the frosted windows with the sillowette of the passengers in the windows, I have two Lionel Southern Crecent Madison cars like that. I guess if I had to I could always get two MTH madison cars and give them the Erie paint job, and lettering.

How about a PINK set [:O]
Where did the pink set come from?
Williams set that is sold out …
As long as we’re on the subject, can anyone tell me if Madison cars were ever used with F3’s? It seems all the RTR sets with F3’s come with streamlined passenger cars, but I have an ABA B&O F3, and love the look of the Madisons in B&O livery, but want to be correct. I mean, I’m sure at some moment in history, a Madison was pulled by an F3, but was it often enough to justify my buying a set of Madisons?
Almost every RR in the country had F3s, somewhere along the way i’m sure most of them pulled madison type cars. they were mostly freight engines but many pulled passenger trains.
Thank you Sir! So if I like them, I’ll consider buying them. I guess the years of the Madison cars overlapped with the years the streamlined cars were in use.
I have seen old railroad movies which showed F3s pulling a mix of Madison and other passenger cars. Some electrics too, now that I think about it.
It makes sence, the railroads were in buisness to make money, and as long as the cars were still serviceable why would’nt they use them, I doubt that they would junk good cars just to get the “updated” cars.
