Due to distance I have been using mail order suppliers who advertise in MR and have found Standard Hobby Supply a good reliable source. I am surprised that the September edition of MR has a much reduced ad from SHS and I now find it impossible to connect with their web site.
Any info out there about SHS ?
I used to use Standard all the time, however haven’t in many years. Lately I have been very happy with 1st Place Hobbies. They have a large selection, easy to use website, good prices and quick delivery. I also use Caboose Hobbies, M.B. Klien and Walthers.
I have no specific information on Standard.
Standard Hobby Supply’s Web site loads OK for me – there may be some glitch with your computer or you’re not typing in the name correctly.
Works fine for me as well.
My guess is that one of the routers you’re going through has lost its way, so you can’t get to the site. Just notify your ISP, if its their problem, they’ll resolve it, otherwise they’ll notify whoever up the line needs to know.
Many Mail-Order houses do not like to change their ads as they get a special rate on the repeats. I suspect Std Hobby is using an ineterim ad - while getting ready for the Holliday Push.
Athearn has been de-emphasized by many mail order discounter’s since they cannot buy any longer at distributer prices.
yeah…I’ve always tried to buy hobbyshop first…but if their prices are too sky high then I whip out this months MR and page through it…but I’ve never ordered off the internet. Always through old fashioned mail.
I have used model railway post office for several years and have always been happy with the service i received. While on the subject of shopping from home, be careful when bidding on model railroad equipment you find on e-bay. My experiences have not always been very happy. A lot of the new stuff on e-bay is being sold by hucksters who somehow have access to items that were returned by their original purchaser for small defects. examples= shinohara turnouts with bad rivets in the throw bars. (a lot of 6 pieces, all with the same defect.) atlas locomotives with broken hand rails. car kits with missing parts. etc. etc.
I try to order through my (RC) LHC, but when he can’t get it I will order from internet stores including: Internet Model Trains, Discount Model Trains, HobbyLinc, and etc…
The only problem I have had with all of them is a delay before they ship. This could be 2-5 days. Some say they have to allow time for the warehouse to pack and label. Ha! I’ll bet their warehouse is Walthers or some other distributor and it takes that long for them to get it.
I have looked on the Net for Hobby Shops around the country and many post an inventory list where you can find your item. They have internet competitive prices. Give them a call and usually they will ship that day Priorty Mail.
