The line crosses and connects with the Maine Central line between Portland and Brunswick near Yarmouth, not too far out of Portland. Hopefully St. L & A will keep that segment open. The much shorter connection to Portland Terminal from Commercial Street across the Back Cove bridge has mostly been pulled up and paved over. The Narrow Gauge Museum trackage there is also supposed to be removed when they relocate.
Wouldn’t raising the rates accomplish the same thing?
Sell the Brunswick to Portland segment to the Maine and Eastern! Or B&G buy the track, operate a tourist line including tour of bean baking factory. The plant is a major facility and employer but has become isolated by the railroads. B & B. B & M. B & G RR!
IF IT KEEPS THE BEANS FLOWING BY RAIL, THEN IT’S AN OK MOVE. I’M SURE IF ANOTHER CUSTOMER EVER LOCATES ON THIS LINE, THE SUBSIDY WILL GET CUT.
Yeah, you could call it the B&M Rail Road.
latterly its 3 miles of spur tack just use there sw1 for it geegsh and it is exx grand trunk and western track. I live in Maine and worked on the Bangor and Aroostook railroad for 45 years from 1952-1996
Good Luck to B & G!!
