Looks like the Not In My Back Yard types are at it again.
Actually Wisconsin Governor Walker supports the iron mine project in northern Wisconsin. A project that not only will provide well paying jobs in northern Wisconsin, but will help save what little railroading is left in that area. I’ll take a “right wing looney toon” over a left wing looney tune any day.
hell if Obama was a republican this govener wouldn’t say shit about this

Political stupidity carried to its highest level. He should be thankful that Amtrak serves his state at all.
Thank you David Mikelson. My thoughts exactly.
I agree this Maine governor is a clone of Wisconsoin’s Scott Walker. Despite Maine being somewhat conservative it has been only somewhat and has been open to a lot of progressive thinking on many projects and needs. Brunswick recently lost all those job with the closing of the military base there, so jobs are scarce, not that this would replace all of them. Instead of the usual Conservative obstructionism he should propose responsible alternatives. One, as outlandish as it may seem, is to have the State cover the costs of extending this service to Augusta less than 50 miles distant. This would quite the NIMBYS…who put up with all kinds of frequent large aircraft noises for decades, so you know this politically trumped up…as well as provide service to and from the State Capital and could be the next step to Bangor.

I thought the Republican mojo was to get rid of any kind of environmental impact statement.
“Shit?”…we need some moderation.
Can’t ya’ll build anything up there transportation wise without some kind of hassle?
The NIMBYs up here in Washington do look at the kinds of jobs that will be created, and since they involve getting the fingers dirty, (and might also attract unions), they don’t like them. The Maine governor knows exactly what he is doing. Ironic that a Republican would use government process to obstruct progress.
The NIMBY do not look at the jobs that will be made
LePage is a clone of Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, a right wing loony toon who despises anything that may serve the public good.
I believe it is called VOTES!
sounds like the NIMBY’s are at it again.
I would recommend extending the ‘Downeaster’ to Bangor. It is a minor “Major population center” and was a busy place, years ago, with two branches of the MEC off of the main line. Northern Maine Junction is only a couple of miles away, if the locals object to using Bangor Yard, adjacent to the old Union Station, for layovers. Jobs are better than food stamps!
