Who pays for the costs of maintaining the diamond at Rochelle? Do BNSF and UP split the costs or farm it out or is it on a per train basis. Just curious as notice they have been working on it lately
Customarily, the junior road is responsible for the costs of maintaining the track and signals.
UP (C&NW) reached Rochelle in 1854; BNSF (CB&Q) 1857.
Situations such as this are governed by a Joint Facility Agreement stipulating the responsibilities of each party. Perhaps someone from either UP or BNSF will share some info about this one. It is almost certain that this Agreement has been modified many times as conditions changed from the original.
As usual - faulty misinformation.
So instead of your empty (and snarky) comment, please correct what you claim is misinformation.
Correction: CB&Q (Chicago and Iowa) reached Rochelle in 1870, not 1857.
C&NW (Air Line) 1854 as stated.
