I am still sick about the notched pilots on my Genesis Warbonnet FP-45s. [;)][:o)]
I received a reply from Athearn today.

Charles,
Thank-you for your inquiry. Please note that the delay is due to some
unanticipated pre-production delays.Sincerely,

Well, that really nails it down![:-^]
Its always better to correct the mistakes then rush the model to market only to have it torn to shreds by the so called “serious” modeler.
Exactly. I would rather have a model that has been corrected before release than to have one that has major problems. Unfortunately the “Serious Modeler” can be more detrimental than helpful to the hobby.

Smitty, I never noticed the notched pilots but then again, I wasn’t looking for that. Unfortunately, this stuff happens with all models even brass.
Charlie.
Erm … is there a manufacturer who doesn’t miss their release dates? Repeatedly?
Just seems to be the way it is, unfortunately.
Tempest in a teapot!
I wouldn’t say this is newsworthy (ie delays)
FWIW, according to the folks at one of my pushers…I mean LHS there are some front office issues causing the delay in new stuff coming from Athearn to be delayed. This person said it only affects new tooling. Anything announced for future release using existing tooling should arrive on schedule.

Sounds more like production glitches then front office issues.
I swear Athearn and Atlas is emptying my hobby budget almost on a monthly bases!!
Atlas has me for 4 of the N Scale GP15-1s and probably a MP15DC and Athearn has me for 2 SW1500 and at least and without checking 4 cars!
So both can slow down a mite…
Remember the 70s and the 80s?
Athearn (or any other manufacturer) did not have the quantity and quality of offerings they do today.
Remember the 6" too wide hoods for motor clearance on the GPs and SDs? Everyone knew about it but most people were happy with the engines.
