Now that our Spring Show http://www.ssmrc.org/ is over (great turnout and exciting), The layout is down for some extensive work. We have been constructing leg 3 of 6 for over a year now. D-Day is here for us, the day after the show the entire layout was Blue Flagged as the various commitees worked in stripping out wiring, track and modifying the existing benchwork to tie in the new portion. Extensive planning/ design went into this to hopefully have a shorter downtime for the layout. Paul3 as well as others from benchwork, ops, elec and trackwork hammered out the plan. The major portion of the yard and under lying mainline trackage is pre wired and basically operational. Hopefully our designs for the prebuilt sections will allow for “perfect” drop-in as we now need to surgically modify the existing to accomadate the fit.
Last Mon was a behive of activity w/ the modifications being done, I guess this is the way to get everyone’s attention and all the help, as the layout will be pretty much Blue Flagged until most of the base work is done. Some members are recording the progress, hope to show how it goes.
So much progress has been made, track/ turnout removal, that Thur evening the yard and trackage back to the steel mill was cut and completly removed. The yard ( Cedar Hill) will be saved for temp storage/ offline staging. The yard behind me , steel mill behind backdrop
It takes teamwork to make something like this happen. When it’s all over, you’ll have an improved layout, but an even stronger feeling of mutual enterprise. Keep us posted on things as they progress.

Wow… super impressive layout! I just hope you never have to move it!
