Recently, i decided my bachmann 0-6-0 could use a change of pace. So, in came the idea of a tank engine. I have a few ideas but i need some suggestions on how to make this a success. By the way, this is also my first scratchbuild. anything would be helpful.[:)] I also need to know where i could find steam detail parts.
Steam detail parts seem to be hard to comeby, so I wish you luck on your journies.
Making it a success?
Step 1. Look at prototypes. New Haven Trap Rock number 43 and and Flagg Coal Company 75 are good places to start.
Step 2. Look at what you have. This will help you decide what you need to make the conversion a success.
Step 3. Think of what you can do with the tender once the conversion is made. An auxillery tender is a good idea.
Step 4. Get the materials. You can probably reuse some of the parts on the engine, just carefully remove them so they can be salvaged.
Step 5. Get started! This is were the fun starts, though it can also lead to frustration. If saddle tank, make a form so you can easily make the tank sides when the time comes. Rebuild the cab to contain a coal bunker. For coal, just crush some, sift it, clean it, and glue in place. For oil burner, just make a tank that would go in the bunker’s place.
Also, when scratchbuilding something for a locomotive, you have to have a set of well detailed plans, so be careful!!!
DO NOT put a FACE on it… you may be in a copyright infringement…
Very funny. [(-D]
Turns out, I found a good site for detail parts. Bowser. They make the Cal scale detail parts and i am certainly going to get my hands on a few.
