I am getting ready to make some culverts and would like some advice. I am planning on using WS rock culverts and am not sure about the area on top ov the culvert where the tracks are. How is the best way to do this? I had in mind to dig out the waterway and add the castings along the sides where the tracks will be. I am wondering what to do with the top, will a small piece of styrene or wood to form a “bridge” work, then add the roadbed and tracks or is there a better way? Thanks Mike
If you already have the roadbed in, I think you could just cut out up to it on both sides. The cast sides should also be set high enough that the ballast wouldn’t spill over the sides and build up and clog the drainage ditch. The ballast profile would be the same over the culvert as the track on either side. Saw it done this way in Texas in an area where I was visiting.
Hi, Mike . I used 1/2" thin wall PVC for culverts. Cut a chunk and shove it in the foam sub-roadbed,or bore a hole to the size you need.Painted an aged concrete it looks pretty good.Above and around the culvert I placed some Rip Rap(stones I found in my driveway)
