Making inserts, materials & the plastic material that is wraped around new engines

Kind of a long title.I have a bunch of upgraded Athearm Blue Box 40’ boxcars. I have 30 MT boxes. Any thoughts on the materials I could use to make inserts?

Question 2; What is the thin, transparent, plastic?, material that is wraped around new engines and is it available to buy somewhere? I guess that’s 3 questions. Anywho, have fun “Playing Trains”[:D]

I’m reasonably sure that it is LDPE film, but I could be mistaken

It looks like the same shrink wrap that is used in boating country to wrap boats in the winter. I suspect it might be too thick to achieve the look you want on a model engine. Perhaps simple Saran wrap, painted white would be best.
