Hi all. I published this on another forum but I thought it might be of interest.
I had this building that I made from an “Auhagen” kit a while back.
It had been built almost as kitted,
but with modified windows.
I have been meaning to paint it and finish it “soon”…
My wife saw that it was standing on the shelf looking sad,
so she told me to “make it a looker”…Okay, that´s the plan,
and here is the conclusion:
Here is how the manufacturer had meant it to look when finished:
Not so very inspiring, and looking a bit too “Waldisch” .
I selected a bit more subtle paint-scheme, and this is the result after painting and weathering:
I am quite happy with the result, and my wife said that i made it to specs. No
Yes, very nice work! I like the amount of weathering you have done, not too much but just the right amount to make the house look “lived in”. Keep up the good work!
Amazing what a good eye along with a little talent and some paint can do, looks to me primarily a stock structure with excellent weathering and color choices, the widow treatments add a lot of realism but I especially like the streaking on the clapboard siding showing the rust form the nails. I too have been working with an airbrush for a very long time and your work is excellent.
I was hoping to achieve that “lived in” look of this house. It is fun, I think, to make standard kits look like they are made of the “right” materials [:)].
I also think it is much more difficult to paint a residential structure convincingly than a factory or other business.
I know that I have some advantages as I am an Artist, but it isn´t so hard to make this kind of painting. The biggest step is to take the leap to try it. A plastic kit is cheap to try on, this one just cost about $ 12.
Very well done, Graffen. I can imagine myself living comfortably in that house on the hill. You have captured “the look.” Do you have pictures showing the other side?
You made one mistake. You told us it was a plastic kit. Most of us would have believed it was a craftsman kit, especially since Auhagen is not that common in the US and I’d bet most of us wouldn’t have recognized this particular kit. Nice work.
Looks fantastic! Did you hand/brush paint or airbrush? The wood siding looks nice and grainy. EDIT: Oops, I just noticed your airbrush web site. I’ll go look there to see what you’re using. Beautiful job.
