I read sometime back about how to make the glue using white glue, (assuming it’s something like Elmers), water and a dash liquid dish soap. I’m making several small HO locomotive & caboose displays about 20" long and I’ve already got the corkbed and track to the wooden display mount. I’ve also made a mix of 1 part glue to 2 parts water with that dash of soap, but the mixture looks to be a bit runny. And I’ve already attached some ballast to the corkbed using the mixture, but after drying several days, the ballast is easily scraped off. Is the mix I’m making the correct way…and/or is there another way to attach the ballast to the cork?
50-50 glue water.
Mist the ballast with a fine sprayer filled with water and some drops of detergent.
Dribble the glue-water mix onto the ballast till it soaks the ballast (i use one of those plastic ketchup dispensers/squeeze bottles). Let dry.
Repeat.
Should make it solid enough to load the roadbed in the back of a pick up truck and drive down the Interstate at 75 mph, uncovered, without being distrurbed.
Thanks for the reply. This will help a lot…now it looks like I might have to finish these off will a little extra glue mix.
