Man survives 50mph "wack" from CSX train in Florida

This is from the Tampa Tribune. How could this guy not hear a train coming? Amazing.

PLANT CITY - A driver was uninjured when his car was hit by a train April 2 on the east side of the city.

The 37-year-old motorist, Jorge Luis Cancino-Sanchez, who said he recently moved from Miami to Plant City, was looking for directions and didn’t hear the train coming.

“Very lucky,” Cancino-Sanchez said repeatedly of his brush with death.

His 1999 Ford Taurus was demolished in the collision with the eastbound CSX freight train at a crossing off U.S. 92 near Wilder Road. The train, with two engines and 15 empty rail cars, was traveling about 50 mph and hit the Ford on the right rear side, spinning the car around, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Cancino-Sanchez said he drove onto the road leading to Universal Structures looking for someone to give him directions. He was looking for a parts warehouse on U.S. 92, the sheriff’s office said.

Last year, a truck driver was killed by an Amtrak train at that crossing. The train derailed after the collision.

That’s one lucky person. Is it a confusing crossing, with unusual angles or something else that would make it difficult to see/hear the train?

Some people seem to have 9 lives. My great grandfather, in a drunken stupor, walked out of a bar about a half a block from a NYC track. Then somehow walked into a slow moving train, he lost an eye, but lived to die of old age.
