Manchester New Hampshire Train Show this weekend

Theres a Train Show at “The Center for New Hampshire” Convention center right downtown on Elm street. Thats right across the street from the park. I plan to go and will take some photo’s and maybe even video. Also I will post them on Youtube if I get some great coverage.

Hope to see You there!

I went today {Sunday} What a Dissapointment! I really wanted to see some layouts. But the only layout was one o gauge with 3 trains running. One which was a gas Turbine.Okay that was Cool! then there was a Thomas loco, good for the kids…and one steamer looked like the Blue Comet except it was grey.

Oh yeah and one Garden rr which doesn’t interest Me much. Now Maybe I should have gone yesterday because Today We had a big Snow Storm and so maybe…Just Maybe all the people with other layouts left yesterday? Anybody go Saturday? How many layouts were there?

Now Why was I disappointed? Well the Flyer for Greenbergs Say’s “Huge Operating Train Layouts” Like I said only One layout with No Scenery to speak of. 4 tables with a circle of track on each one for kids to operate.

On a good note there were a good number of vendors and I was able to pick up a few things for a fair price.I really felt like I spent $7.00 at the door just to get into a flea market.I had been to this show a few years ago and I don’t remember how it was then. But I think I will pass on going to this one again.

Okay, I’m done venting…

Hello, I went to this show on Saturday, it was alot better than how you described today’s… Price’s were okay, but I found that some were just plain bogus…The only deal I got was I went to purchase a used EMD F45 and a boxcar and the guy gave me the boxcar for free…

Yeah the prices were steep for most items. The deals I found were mostly on stuff hidden in boxes. I got half off on everything I bought except a bottle of plastic cement.

I do agree, it was like a giant flea market, and I find it hard to believe that it was ,to quote the flyer, ‘‘The World’s largest Train Show’’…Even the Used stuff was expensive! I saw one guy asking $90 for a used Alco RS-3 that was missing couplers, railing and other stuff!

There’s a good reason why that show was a disappointment. Springfield is this coming weekend:

The show is at the Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield, MA, and is probably the largest “scale” train show in the county if not the world (seriously!). There are 4 buildings, over 4 acres, and over 20,000 people attend over the 2-day show. Most every manufacturer is there (Atlas, Athearn, Walthers, Kadee, MTH, Lionel, City Classics, Jay-Bee, Lenz, Digitrax, Miniatronics, Broadway Limited, Bachmann, Overland, etc.), and there are modular layouts in just about every scale, some of which have 1000’ linear feet of mainline. Even real railroads show up to display (Vermont Railway, Amtrak, etc.).

It’s not just a show, it’s an event. Anyone holding a train show in New England within a week of Springfield is certifiable, IMHO.
