Last night on CBS ‘60 Minutes’ there was an interview with the actor, Mandy Patinkin. He is a rather interesting character but what caught my eye was his Lionel layout. In this layout he chronicled his life with scenes depicting times and people he has known. There was also a section in memory of his father and mother. I thought it was interesting as his layout was, in a many ways, his memory. The program may be on their web site.
I saw it, Harold. As it is for so many of us, his layout is his “happy place.”
His layout was covered in quite a bit of detail a few years back on the RFD-TV show “I Love Toy Trains”, in which he goes into quite a bit of detail about the how and why and the construction of the layout. Unlike some other “celebrity” hobbyists, Patinkin built quite a bit of the layout himself. He’s a man of a great many talents–a favorite of mine.

“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
My favorite of his roles, from “The Princess Bride.”
I especially liked the Lionels whipping around those 10" radius curves at 150 scale MPH! They packed th’ mass to do that! What could be cooler and more Lionel than that. Memories of my childhood flooded back.
So those words he kept using. Did they mean what he thinks they mean?*
*Another big fan of the movie.

Here’s a link to the Tom Snyder interview with Mandy Patinkin
In TM’s “Celebrity Toy Train Layouts” video/DVD on his layout, they show that clip, and at the end of the video he does a parody of it. IIRC its: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You messed with my trains. Prepare to die.”

Thanks for posting the link. I had no idea he was into the hobby.
Love his work on Homeland and only caught the first ten minutes of the “60minutes” interview as my dvr stopped recording at 8pm - CBS was time shifting that evening

Thanks for that. Great video. Did you hear him mention Neil Young at the beginning? He pretty well saved Lionel from disappearing when he got involved with their command control.
