Mantua 2-6-6-2 Logger

I recently purchased two 2-6-6-2 logging locos…one with and one without a tender.

The literature provided with the models leaves a great deal to be desired…nothing but an exploded diagram.

Does anyone have assembly and disassembly procedures for these engines they would pass on. My locos are new and both suffer from a bind in the drive train and I need guidance on how to clean and lube the systems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! The site hoseeker.com has some really nifty material. Hopefully what they have at the link below is something better than you already have.

Gee, Crandell, like I did in my other post, you took all the fun out of hard sweaty work to find information!

See what you started, darn you…it’s contagious!!!

If you can’t find it, let me know and I’ll scan a copy and send it to you. I’m in the middle of building one up from the kit. Just about ready to put the boiler on. Mechanism is finished and seems OK. An interesting project. rodcarr@carrsails.com

I bought 3 of these a couple of years ago and all 3 are lousy runners, I shelved them for a future project that I’ll tackle someday, maybe.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m lucky, maybe I’m stupid or maybe I just know how to pucker my lips right. Both of my Mantua 2-6-6-2Ts (16.5mm gauge versions) ran well out of the box, and both got down to 300mm radius on my test spiral before becoming actively unhappy.

One, cosmetically modified to resemble a Kawasaki (prototype) product, is currently in service on my layout. The other is being held for a future conversion - emphasis on the ‘future.’ I don’t consider either of them to be problem children or potential trade goods.

I really would appreciate the scans.

I’m mechanically quite adept and have a serious mechanical engineering background, so a hands on experience is no problem and your “roadmaps” would be well appreciated.
