Mantua 2-6-6-2 sound & motor decoder

Hi There;

My good wife is going to buy me one of the above for Xmas. I have looked online but I can’t find a sound decoder for this engine. Is there one made? Or is there something close ?

Thanx; Tom

If you know someone who’s a member of the NMRA, borrow his copy of “Scale Rails” for November, 2007. There’s a complete article on detailing and adding DCC and sound to a Mantua 2-6-6-2. The fellow in question used a DSX (sound only ) sound decoder from Soundtraxx (he chose the one for the SP GS-4) and used a Zimo MX-63 DCC decoder for the rest. Article starts on page 42.

Hope this helps.

I would recommend a Tsunami Logging Decoder. It has the best sound available.

Given the lead time between the time the article was written and the time it was actually published, the Tsunami decoder was probably was not available when the article was written. It looks like the TSU-750 would be the ideal decoder for the Mantua 2-6-6-2.

Hi There;

Andre-David, Thanx guys. I have given the info to my wife & kids. Wife is buying loco & kids are buying the decoder & speaker. Great family eh? At least I will end up with something I realy want & can use. I have wanted this loco since since I was about 10 (55years ago) just never did get around to buying it . Found it for for a really good price brand new on Ebay.

Thanx again Tom
