Does any one have a DC Mantua 2-6-6-2 Tank engine ? Mine seems to have some sort of intermittent electrical issues . It will run fine then suddenly stop , usually if I touch the locomotive it will start moving again . I thought maybe Dirty tracks or wheels , but Cleaned both but still the same issue , . Any ideas will be helpful !
Is this the one before or after Model power took them over? The new ones with the can motor & flywheel have some very interesting wiring in the tender, if it’s the same as my pacific. You may want to bypass all that & rewire it. If it is the older model it has to be an electrical problem. My guess, since you cleaned everything is between the tender trucks & the frame. Check the forum to see how to add wipers to the trucks. But should run well without them if everything is CLEAN. jerry
**Ops…**sorry, didn’t see “tank engine” disregard what i said about the tender.
I had similar problems with mine. This might not be the cause of your difficulty, but is worth checking out:
Does the stopping happen at a turnout or crossing? On mine, one of the gearbox covers under the locomotive extended quite low - indeed low enough to rub on the crossing rail at a turnout and cause a short. The gearbox cover plate actually was lower than the top of the railheads. My solution was to (a) grind away some of the thickness of the offending coverplate with a grinding wheel on a motortool but not grinding enough away to burn a hole in the plate, and then (b) put a couple thick coats of clearcoat on the lowest portions of the cover plate to serve as insulation.
Good luck. Bill
Yes there is no tender and it is one after Model Power took over .
it appears that the Vipers are on the Front truck and the Trailing truck and both have a spring tensioner on both .
Thanks Bill , That maybe the problem I will check it out because it does stall on the switches crossings especially at sloe speeds
