Manual notching is labor intense

I setup a Soundtrax DSD - LC diesel decoder to use manual notching. That is, you have to manually push function buttons to rev up the motor or slow it down as opposed to having the decoder do it automatically in response to throttle setting. But it takes TWO pushes on the function button to cause it to ramp up one notch, both notching up and notching down. And this is true even after I did a reset on the decoder (thinking it was confused). Now I am confused. Has anybody else seen such behavior?

I fiddled with manual notching but too many button pushes for me I went the auto way.

This is where our throttle technology is falling way behind the decoder technology… This should not be hard.
