Many Questions about Trains [%-)]

I was looking at pictures Here and it brought up a few questions (Ah Hem)

1.I heard that CP is buying the DM&E? Are the buying the ICE too. It’s owned by the same company right?

  1. Is the Monongahela Railroad still in buisiness? Is it the Same thing as the “Monon”

3.How many unpatched SP engines are left

  1. Does Genesee and Wyoming own the Alleghany Railroad

This thread will probably be working for a while.[:D] Please answer these if you can

[:)] Thanks![:)]

I was looking at a few pictures after i wrote the last post and I have two more questions

1.Are there any CSX engines left in their Seaboard, Seaborad System, or Family Lines Paint Scheme

2.Was the Family Lines a Merger or just a partnership of a few companies

3.Is there really a CSX engine #1 the Spirit of West Virginia, if so, does anyone have a pictue of it.

Thanks

the awnser to question 2 is no…it was folded into conrail in the early 90s i think… not sure…and no…its not the same as the monon…

csx engineer

The answer to the very first question is yes, CP will get both DME/ICE if the sale goes through

So the merger isn’t even finalized yet? Does that mean that CN might not buy the EJ&E?

seaboard 2667 yes I have a picture and spirit of west virginia I have a place where you can see that too.please email me.

stay safe

Family Lines was the marketing plan of Seaboard Coast Line Industries. There was never a railroad or a corporation called Family Lines.

As of today there are 33 unpatched Southern Pacific units and 18 unpatched Cotton Belt units on the Union Pacific. Thanks to Ryan “Espeeboy” Martin on Trainorders.com for today’s answer.

Awesom![:D] Then How come there are only 3 unpatched CNWs. Were there fewer to begin with?

Yes; and that merger took place longer ago.

The Monon-The Hoosier Line- also Identified as the CI&L Chicago , Indianapolis and Louisville.

How do you pronounce it?

Unfortunately, there are now only 2 unpatched CNW’s running, 8701 and 8646. (both Dash-9s)

8575 (Dash-8) was patched in 2006

I lived along the C&NW for 30 years until it became DM&E. Now I know what the locomotives looked like when they where clean.

Was the Chicago North Western as bad about Keeping engines clean as the Southern Pacific? Were’nt they doing pretty good during the last years before the merger? Please Answer.[;)]

The Hoosier line is pronounced MOE-non.The railroad changed its name officially from CI&L to Monon in 1956.

Where did the company get the name, Monon?

From the town of Monon, Indiana. The Monon’s (CI&L) routes were roughly in the shape of an “X”. One route was pretty nearly North - South with the northern terminal at Michigan City, IN and its southern end at Louisville, KY. The other line ran northwest - southeast from Chicago to Indianapolis. The two lines crossed at the small town of Monon.

The CN’s acquisition of the EJ&E is totally unrelated to the CP’s acquisition of the DM&E/ICE.

The CN may not buy the EJ&E. For one thing STB approval is required and they have yet to issue a ruling on the matter. I believe the STB decision is expected in October at which time they may or may not approve the sale of the “J”. Also many of the suburban Chicagoland towns through which the “J” runs are dead set against the acquisition because of the increased number of trains that will be run by the CN over the line. These communities have banded together and have lined up some pretty influential politicans on their side in opposition to the sale. Even Sen. Obama has come out against the deal. Hunter Harrison of the CN recently stated publicly that the CN may give up the planned acquisition if any required mitigation is too costly or if excessive restrictions are imposed on their operation of the line.

The Chicago burbs better be careful what they ask for…they may get it in more ways than they can understand or are even prepared to think about. Time does not stand still…for a railroad or for a community.
