I’m always a sucker for the “what might have beens”. How about some maps of mergers that never happened? The Ripley Plan, the Van Swerigen’s proposed consolodation, the PRR-N&W-WAB and C&O-B&O-NYC proposal that predated Penn Central…any other ones that I’m missing right now? I’d expect there would have to be some sort of threshold for what was significant enough to be included-both in the size of the RR’s and how serious the proposals were. It might be interesting to see what those would hav elooked like on a map.
Or a map of trancontinental RR proposals (C&NW, RI, etc.) that didn’t happen?
