Map

Hi: I’m new to the forum and would very much appreciate some help with identifying a back issue of TRAINS magazine.

I bellieve, in the past 2 to 3 years, an issue of TRAINS contained a map of old passenger train routes that no longer exist. The map had a lot of “extension” routes of well-know passenger trains. For example, the map should an old train route from Casper, WY, north, which connected to either the NP or GN line. Another example, the map showed a connection from Fargo, ND up to Winnepeg.

Unfortunately, I discarded the issue. Does anyone remember such a map and which TRAINS issue it was in? I would like to order a back issue. By the way, I also subscribe to “Classic Trains” and “Passenger Train Journal”, so there is some chance the map was in a back issue of those magazines However,. I believe it was a TRAINS magazine where I saw the map.

Thanks.

Hi Richard

The map you’re probably referring to is the April 2010 Map of the Month which showed the passenger system just prior to Amtrak, Amtrak’s first day and Amtrak in sthe present day.

As luck would have it, I’m working on a map for Classic Trains that shows the CB&Q train that went north from Casper WY (originated at Denver) up to Billings MT where it interchanged with the NP. It went out in 1967.

Hope this helps
