Just looking on MapQuest at the territory covered in Jim Wrinn’s article The Loops at Old Fort and the line is identified as Csx ! But then MapQuest is full of RR misidentifications.
Welcome to the wonderful world of GIS (garbage in = garbage out)…Many surveyors have a really low opinion of GIS and this is typically why.
I’m always surprised by how many times I see the Milwaukee Road listed as the railroad on fairly current(according to the dates, at least) maps.[B)]
Welcome to the forum! I have also had problems with the accuracy of Mapquest. About 6 years ago I was looking for a Hampton Inn in Omaha, and Mapquest put it on the west side of the street when it was supposed to be on the east side of the street. Then another time its driving directions to a motel in Tulsa told me to go one exit west of the exit I was supposed to take, turn right, go to Kansas City, turn right again to the motel. Ok so I’m exagerating a bit. However, there have been times when their maps and their driving directions have been right on the money so I don’t knw what the problem is. As far as finding directions there’s nothing like a map or an atlas like DeLorme.

Jim wrote a great article. I stopped at Old Fort 4 years ago and there is a museum at the depot, staffed by an adorable lady about 80 years old. There was lots of neat stuff. Had I known about the loops, I would have ventured upgrade.

mapquest indicates plenty of bike trails as RR tracks in my area. and they also label some of the track as “green bay and western railroad”
