ok this maybe a dumb question but i am only 19 years old and new to watching train so please bare with me. Is there a place on the net that i can get a map of mile post markers and track defect detectors in arizona?. Another thing is the defect detectors the same place a the mile post markers? Thanks everyone!
I don’t think there is one. The Altamont Press Southwest Timetable may be your best bet.
At one time you could get this info off the Internet, but post 9/11 I have not seen it. There are two major railroads that cross Arizona, BNSF and UP. There are dozens of defect detectors. Let me know which RR you are interested in, where you railfan and I will give you some locations. The detectors may or may not be located right at a milepost.

Welcome to the forum. I STRONGLY recomend you pick up the timetable Dale linked you to. It has a wealth of information and I don’t leave home without it.
Two good resources for this are the Altamont Press timetables (already mentioned) and a series of western railroad maps published by Sonrisa Publications (www.djcooley.com) that will show you the locations of detectors along the routes.
Have fun! Arizona is beautiful. And last time I was alnog the Transcon, the freights were running on 12-minute headways at peak morning and afternoon periods.
