Busy day at work. Wet Monday. Dry today and quieter at work. Noticed the Chief is not teaching the kids about that “all American sport” which is a shame considering how popular it is in that state. I hope everyone has a good day.
Mom has bronchitus and the flu, steroid treatments and IV fluids, hope to have her home this afternoon. She’s sleeping now, will check on her in a few.
Overspent at Greenburgs, got Jenni some stuff, she bought some of her own stuff, I did get a K Line abandoned bridge with fisherman for $25 and a wigwag board from JLM in Freehold. The board doesn’t work, I’ll be emailing him later to see what’s up. I did hook it up correctly to my 154 crossbuck, so we’ll see.
Been working from home as of late, so it’s a nice change. I have to go to a shop and speak with the manager tomorrow, so I’ll be on the road - I like the way the font and boldness just changed on the post…wtf???
Was gonna post this morning just before 11, but then the meetings started. Ugh!
Today is Tyler’s 17th birthday! Dayum! Cannot believe he is that old already. Here’s a shot of him with me at Xmas:
Getting the LR back in order, set up the piano last night, found the power cord this morning (can’t believe Tyler and Corey didn’t look right around where we stored it - DUH), and Tyler and Corey were tinkling on it before catching the bus for school. Still have the train tree set up with a circle of O27 track around it, need to take that down this weekend.
Rain’s moving in again, was beautiful this morning, really wanted to drive the SS in, but knew it was gonna rain. Finally ordered tires for the Mercury - once those are in it goes to Angelo for a laundry list of things, tune up, oil change (Mobil 1 Synthetic), wiper blades, tires, steering, etc. Be nice to get it in tip top mechanical condition again.
Raining and sometimes hard. Started at 12 noon. Was helping Wifey at the poles this AM. She was working for our friend who is running for state senate. Wonderful lady with careing heart. Should win.
Chief, yes reading to the kids is fun. Cat used to have us managers do it several times a year if we wanted to.
Wow, 15 days out and I am still not clear of this crud! It started out like flu and went away fast but just still holding me down two weeks later?
I feel like a half flat tire. [:S]
Happy birthday to Tyler! Our step grandson Dan Jr. turned 16 yesterday. Time is flying by.
After a week of hacking and coughing Mrs decided to go to MedExpress Monday. Yep…she’s got pneumonia.
Working on the bathroom every chance I get. Wiring mods in progress. Bought 2x4s today to add studs in the correct locations for the tub surround.
The winter that wasn’t is almost over. The oak tree in the yard is almost bare and a pair of robins was spotted in the yard. Knock on wood, only plowed snow once and that was about 2 inches of sleet.
I renewed my TCA membership amd bought York passes. Who all is coming??
Looking forward to the Oak Ridge Boys on Saturday at the American Music Theatre in Lancaster. Gonna miss the Altoona train show but I’ve been to many shows, this will be the 6th time seeing the Oaks. Better yet I’ll be accompanied by two lovely ladies, Mrs and her niece.
Gave the go ahead on a new roof for the farm house. The guy is 35% less than the next. Makes me leary but they’re all buying the metal from the same local company. Gonna watch them like a hawk.
Gloomy this morning but high in the 40s today. Much better than the usual early March here. We’re gonna take a stroll through the new Super Kroger this morning. It’s been open for awhile so I guess going there now should be ok.
Mornin’ boys. Breezy and 49 in the Potomac Highlands. Have to head back down to railyard today to continue the work I couldn’t get done yesterday. Took Wifey for her check-up, and she’s done a fabulous job lowering the bp. Tomorrow is my turn…
Saw that 88 posted on WMSR’s facebook page. Coming out to see me Brent?
Banks - Liked your post so much, I read it twice. I have my YORK ticket, and as of now I hope to be there Friday.
Binge watched 3 Hill Streets last night. Busy day at work Tuesday. Quieter today. Traffic was a zoo this AM. Ugh Ugh Ugh. Getting way too old for this BS. I hope everyone has a good day.
DJ…Nice win for Rutgers. My Boilers beat Iowa again. [(-D]
Working on the benchwork for the new layout by cutting the OSB. About three years ago, I started looking at my power tool situation and realized I had first class junk except for my drills and power screwdrivers. I now have a new saber saw and a new circular saw. Wow! The new saws are so easy to use.
Will not be making York this year. Hope to be there this fall.
Super Tuesday came and went. It really looks like the Democratic Party is trying to disenfranchise Bernie Sanders and give the nomination to anyone but him.
Had a small celebration for Tyler last night, will have a big one Saturday night.
Yeah, I was watching the Iowa game also - who is that big guy on their team with the continuous eyebrow? We play you guys on Saturday, should be a good game.
Gorgeous day today, sunny and mid-50’s. Drove the SS in once again. Really need to get tires for it, they are very old and very worn. Got around ~40K miles on them, and I think I got them back in 2010. Let’s see…just tracked it down, got them April 2010 from Tire Rack. This is only the 2nd set of tires I’ve had on the car. Next up I’ll need to replace the stereo system - I got the head unit summer of 1998, a really good Alpine unit, but it’s shot now, cuts out all the time. And I’m pretty sure 1 or 2 of the original speakers are blown. Time for a new set.
So I ran across this video of New York City in 1911 which was colorized. Really good, about 8 minutes long. The 2nd half of the video has some shots of NYC’s elevated lines. Enjoy:
Spanky, that 1911 film of New York is stunning, the restoration and half-tone colorization is downright miraculous!
I’m going to try and post it on the “Classic Trains” Forum, we love that stuff!
Just think, there’s some old-timers walking the streets in that film who remember the Civil War, especially the gent with the white beard walking toward the camera on one segment. Remember it? It wouldn’t surprise me if he fought in it!
These old films do make me just a little sad, it’s like watching ghosts, since there’s no one in that film who’s still living.
Rain started last night, rained all day, and still raining until late tonight/early tomorrow. 50’s right now but weekend will be nice! 70?
I will not make York. Thought about it but it is too much money to commit to have Eastern Div get scared and cancel and/or vendors/member sellers get scared and not show up. Too bad as Southwest really dropped the ticket prices, obviously due to folks cancelling plans. Tics a couple weeks ago were high.
Kev - DonB doing fine. Spoke to him last week. There is a lot going on in his life right now, but they are fine otherwise.
“Eastern Division get scared and cancel?” Corona virus panic?
Hoo boy. I looked up some figures out of curiosity. In 2019 there were 34,000 reported deaths from plain ol’ flu here in the US. In 2018 there were 61,000. Corona virus hasn’t even come close. I’m not saying there’s no cause for concern, but there’s no cause for hysteria.
But, never underestimate the power of hysteria. And it seems 30% of the people in this country aren’t happy unless they’re terrified of something. Go figure.
I’m not planning on any lifestyle changes, and I’m not locking myself away from the world either.
Watched the LEGO show again thinking it might be good. First half was good with a city theme to it, but then they added a twist with monsters and kind of ruined the whole event. Real shame was that people who had a really good build with the city got sent home for the last part, which really did not seem right. Sometimes I kind of wonder about those shows… Weather is windy. I hope everyone has a good day.
