Markham spottings

I was in Homewood today and took a look at what was in the dead line.

The number of WC SD45’s is really shrinking. Just a few left.

There are 4 BC UBoats, four axle 3600 series units.

Also there are two very interesting looking BB units in the 1400 series, 1414 and 1436 I believe. These are road switcher and have cabs set back further than GP units. They are rather small. Any idea of what these are? I believe they were used at one time in the western Canadian lines on light rail branch lines, but am not sure.

Thanks,

Ed,

Those were probably GMD1s… Yup! Looked like this, eh?

Looks pretty sad on those freight car trucks… [:(]

This photo shows 1026 with the A1A trucks they were built with.

The 1400s were BB rebuilds during the late 1980s after most of the light rail lines had been improved or abandoned.

Thats it!

What are they doing on freight car trucks? I thought they looked weird, like a kid with shoes too small and pants too high.

Were the trucks just for transporting?

Most likely, the trucks that used to be on that engine have been used elsewhere, to fix another engine. Or, they may have been stripped of usable parts, and scrapped. Which is most likely the fate of 1414… [:(]
