Märklin 29751 Fire Department Digital Starter Set

It is a good set but the DCC system look hard. i like the loco and the strob light. That is cool afect. Why can’t thay make american loco’s?

I was facinated just watching the video. Having been in Germany and seeing those trains I think this is great. Cannot wait until I get to their website.

Is this HO or N gauge?

It is HO from the packaging marking. Also Marklin/Trix = HO; MiniTrix = N.

Marklin starter set is an exceptional train set in that other additional packs can be added to expand the original set. Digital control and added switching feature enhances the enjoyment the owner can have.

I think it’s HO scale. The set looks so cool that I want it,but how much does it cost?

Might be worthwhile mentioning that Marklin’s HO system runs on three rail / centre stud AC and is not compatable with the products of other manufacturers. Once you start in Marklin you’re stuck in Marklin. They do produce some American rolling stock which they also produce in DC two rail under the Trix brand.

As a long time Marklin railroader who’s now looking at Atlas, Bachmann and Walthers, I’d like to point out some things: Marklin is expensive, but you get great manufacturing quality for the money. Compare the track systems, C track snaps together without worrying about Rail Joiners. And some of their newer locs are incredible runners, see the review in the recent (December 2007?) issue of a typical DB diesel. Marklin is not DCC, its Motorola. DCC engines will not run on a Marklin layout. Marklin is 3 rail, with a center stud, not 2 rail. 2 Rail locomotives will not run on 3 rail Marklin track. Marklin’s locomotives use a center pickup shoe to get power from the track. Marklin does make American locomotive models, including a Big Boy, a Mikado, and many many F7s. But they do not make newer American Diesels like the GP-40s, and that is very, very disappointing.

I THOUGHT THAT THIS VIDEO WAS VERY HELPFUL.

That looks very interesting. I like the fact the locomotive has an operating strobe and is capable of slow speed operation is very nice. I also enjoyed the fact it is equipped with a DCC system. I only give it a four, for it seems a bit childish for a Firefighter Trainset. Although, it does seem very nice…

I started my interest in Marklin when my Father brought back trains from Germany after WWII. Marklin was my first set.

What most people fail to realize is that Marklin is primarily a European prototype. It was never a company that made American type LOCOS. So if your into those great steamers like I am with the big RED wheels, Marklin does a great job, as well as Fleishman Roco, and otheres that make euro type loco’s that run on two rail. Hey, enjoy them all, that’s what the hobby is all about!
Your only limitation is your wallet, and quite frankly, they are all getting a little too pricey for me. (Did I spell that right?)

I own 5 marklin steam engines and about 40 cars. They are well engineered and are a pleasure to run.

I saw a retail price of $285.00

I saw in one video a guy was able to run a Hornby locomotive on the 3-rail C track from Maerklin, If Maerklin uses AC Power than DC Power, how did Maerklin make a DCC system for an AC operated track?

Are the Maerklin boxes large?
