Marklin vs. Trix

Does anyone know what the differences are between Trix cabooses and Marklin cabooses? Would the versions be exactly the same EXCEPT for:

  1. AC (i.e. non-insulated or all-metal) wheel sets?
  2. Non-RP-25 wheels?
  3. European couplers?

The reason for asking is that I picked up a Marklin caboose off eBay recently, thinking it was a Trix. (Doh! [D)]). I know that Trix is Marklin’s North American division. I just wanted to make sure that the above are the only things that are different between the two versions. If they are exactly the same then I’ll just install Bettendorf trucks (w/ Proto 2000 “ribbed” wheels) and Kadee #20 (NEM-compatible) couplers on each end.

Thanks for the help. [:)]

Same thing, different trucks and couplers is all…

Marklin trains are made to run on 3-rail AC, so you may have to replace the wheels. Other than that, it should be fine.

The difference between Marklin and Trix American prototypes have are 2 rail DC operation,RP25 wheelsets, and Kadee style knuckle couplers. Other than these differences, they are identical. Trix is Marklin’s 2-rail offerings(Formerly HAMO)Marklin purchased long time rival TRIX-Mangold of Nuremberg back in the 90’s. Trix is NOT Marklin’s North American division, that is Marklin USA,it’s Marklin’s brand of 2 rail DC trains. Rick

I stand corrected, Rick. Bad choice of wording on my part. What I meant to convey was that the Trix line was Marklin’s effort to make in-roads into the American DC market.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I already thought. [:)]
