I’m trying to custom paint an O-scale passenger car in the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Orange & Maroon. I tried out the Polly S Milwaukee Road Orange and Milwaukee Road Maroon, but was very dissatisfied with the results. The orange looks great, but the maroon is WAY too dark, almost brown.
Does anyone have any recommendations for the Hiawatha maroon? I could go and try experimenting myself, but I’m kinda hoping that someone’s got something already figured out.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Try Modelflex Wisconsin Central Maroon. It’s lighter and a little redder.
James (CMSTPP) just had this same problem. He fixed it and it looks really good. You may want to send him a PM.
The chances are that Polly S shaded their red a little too much in producing what they have labeled as Milwaukee Maroon; what you need to do is suppress the shading by adding a little red until you have what you want - I would probably use Signal Red myself although Caboose Red would probably be equally usable; go slowly because if you overdue it then you’re going to have to invest in some kind of black in order to increase the shading. Unless you want to play by-guess-and-by-golly every time you get ready to paint something start with a full bottle and keep a tally of just what you do to get the proper shade.
