Greetings,
I have been thinking about getting back into the 027 world after
being in HO about 10 years ago and letting that table sit
and gather dust etc.etc. Anyhow I started the train world with
a Marx set in about 1958. I’ve been looking at bidding on some
items on e-bay but I get confused between these 666 and 1666
locomotives that are available. Are these brothers and both 027
or is one an “0”?? My name is Jim, I’m from Indiana via Cleveland
so you can imagine my twisted personality. I’m seeking some
help here. Thanks for your time.
Marx was all “O27” or about 1/64 scale, running on 1 1/4" gauge track, like prewar American Flyer. The difference between 666 and 1666 was metal versus plastic. Check out http://www.thortrains.net/marxfun.htm
It’s great to know you’re getting back into O27. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun.
The 666 and 1666 were Marx’s 2-4-2 smoking steam engines. The difference between them is that the 666 is made out of die-cast metal and the 1666 is made out of plastic.
Thanks for the help. I’m going to have one of each
in a day or so! I’m looking for a place that would
have some parts for Marx engines. I went to one site
referenced to another person but all I saw there was
the very old tin type… in there someone like a
“Lionelparts@aol.com” but for Marx? Thanks again.
Jim
Jim;
Yes there is: It is “partsformarx.com” This is the web site for Robert Grossman, 1967 Chelford Rd. Richmond Hits. OH 44143. Telephone 216-738-0602 email at "parts4marx@msn.com.
He is very friendly and helpful. Call or email for information if you do not have his $4.00 printed catalog (it is NOT on his website). He has hundreds of reproduction and used parts.
Happy Marxing,
