MARX accesories question

I have two MARX accessories that need a bit of TLC. One is a gate with a watchman, and the other is a crossing gate without a gaurd. BOTH have these small solenoids and BOTH do not work. Are there replacement solenoids available either through a “train” supply OR Radio Shack? OR… should I just set them on the layout and let them alone? (this is what they do right now…) I also should mention, the watchman gate has lost it’s crossing gate…

If you shop the “E” you can find good ones, but watch the prices and don’t pay more than it’s worth to you. Some of those bidders have to be brain damaged.

HAHA That is true! I did see an “almost new” watchman once, but now I forget what it went for. I was just wondering if there were $1.00/CHEAP (or thereabouts) solenoids available… because I realize that my accessories aren’t worth a great deal due to the condition. Although they are “OK” they are certainly not a 100 pts. LOL

There is a company that sells Marx parts on line, other than that some one else may know a scource. Try “search” for marx parts.

Robert Grossman might have what you’re looking for. www.trainpartsformarx.com

If the solenoids don’t look burned out (no burn marks on the windings or the paper that covers the windings), try giving them a shot of contact cleaner to clean them out. Sometimes that will bring one back to life.

I’ve brought back many a dead Lionel, Flyer, and Marx accessories by doing that. Give them a good squirt, let them dry, and lube them up.

Thanks for the tips! I will give them a try!

I also searched that guys site, but didn’t see any solenoids… However, it is a great site for MARX stuff.
