Hi, Marx freaks. Figured I would start a new thread.
Found my old Marx #1829 in a closet awhile back, then remembered why it was there. The old boiler gave up on it. The steam chest and left cylinder were shot, too. Guess the plastic was suffering from ozone rot, or something. What to do? Rebuild, naturally. Found a #333 shell cheap, and after having the boiler certified, it was time to sent it to paint. After removing all the hardware, I test fit the running gear. The only thing I needed to do was to remove two small square tabs (1 each side just below the mounting screw) that are spot welded on, and one slotted tab in the back. Satisfied, I media blasted the boiler and trucks. The head light lens and jewels are pressed in, and popped right out with a small punch. Whistle and bell were easily removed as well. Couple of medium coats of BBQ pit black paint was shot to the metal parts, with very little masking required. The side rods, linkage, bell, whistle and hand rails really shined up with a little metal polish. While the paint is drying, it’ll give me time to go over the mechanics of it, and clean and lube all that moves…Will post the results soon… Having fun with Marx! r0n :-/

Great restoration photos and very well done! Restoration is one aspect of the hobby I have yet to experience, but I am very excited to try my hand at. I love to make old things look new again. Your Marx now looks for all the world just like a K-Line starter set steamer!

looks great, thanks for sharing. I have a small Marx collection that I try to add to at every show. I hope to go to the Marx Convention this summer at Wheeling this year and find some more.; Love to have a 333.
