Does anyone know whether or not the Maryland Midland operates on a schedule? And what that schedule is? Thanks, Jeff in MD
At last report the Maryland Midland was still only running one trip a day into and out of Union Bridge.
They used to operate 3 trains a day. One round trip ran eastbound in the morning between Union Bridge and Emory Grove via Westminster. It picked up loaded hopper cars at the cemant plant east of Union Bridge first, and it switched other on-line customers before going to Emory Grove. It returned with empty cement hoppers for the cement plant in Union Bridge. [Edited] The track to the cement plant no longer runs up Farquhar Street in Union Bridge. Instead, a new track was built to the east of Union bridge to reach the cement plant.
An afternoon trip went west to Highfield where it dropped off loaded cars from the cement plant for CSX, and it picked up empty cars for the cement plant. Another train ran between a quarry near Fredrick, and it delivered the cars of stone to the Congoleum plant in Ceadrhurst, MD which is east of Westminster, MD.
Due to a traffic decline in 2008 the Maryland Midland cut back to running one train a day into and out of Union Bridge.
Thanks, Rudy. Anyone else have any information?
