Does anyone know of a source of Mashima flat can motors in the USA? I know Proto Power West / A-line sells them but they are $40.00 with flywheels. Searched the web but only found them in the UK. Gary Taylor
A couple of guys on eBay often have selected ones for $15 to $25. My LHS ordered me one for $32.
If you type the phrase ‘mashima motors’ into Google it comes up with over 800 listings of places you can purchase them.
IF YOU SEARCHED THE WEB, then you know Aline has them for $32.95 without the flywheels.
Athearn has lot’s of cheap motors. I sold all of mine for $5 prefering the Mashima.
Well, I have searched the web. Nobody has the SMALL Mashima 1015 or 1020 motors. Even A-Line doesn’t stock these. Since I model in N-Scale, these are the ones I want. There are a few U.K. stores that have them, but the shipping cost plus the increased prices on these in England make them way too expensive. I may as well spend $75 or more on a Micro-Mo or Maxon coreless motor at those prices. Any sources on the 10 mm size in the U.S. ?
Sagami has a wide selection of motors, including 10 and 11mm. Check with Walthers. They’re top quality, used by many brass loco manufacturers. Also used by Hobbytown and TigerValleyModels, (H0).
You could also get “replacement” motors from Kato, Atlas, etc. They’re listed in the parts lists for their locos on their respective web sites.
Try Northwest Shore Line “NWSL” They have a vast assotment of motors and a web site that is very helpful.
Try a GOOGLE search using Mashima miniature motors.
No idea why shortage of Mashima motors in USA.
I obtain some of my small parts [British outlne] from Mainly Trains in the UK.
www.mainlytrains.co.uk.
Other than a very satisfied customer, no affiliation. Service is excellent, prices are reasonable. Prices shown are inclusive of 17.5% tax, which is deducted for U.S. customers, this partially offsets shipping [request: Small Package Airmail].
My last order from them happened to be a Mashima 1620 plus an additional flywheel. Total cost came to $27.50 [US] less tax including shipping.
you might try asking Eldon Shirey at www.micro-loco-motion.com I know he carries Faulhaber, Maxon and other brands, and he’s a good guy to deal with.
