masking fluid

i don’t like buying a lot of different products when I can use something I already have. Has anyone tried white glue as masking fluid? Seems it would form a paint proof seal & peel off of plastic, metal or even metal. Also if you could break the paint seal you could wash it off after the paint dried.

Another thought would be to use liquid masking fluid used for watercolor. jerry

Jerry,
I prefer the Rubber/Soft type masking films.
I have some Bob Divey (SP?) for RC products (light blue in color), but it has lost its cap seal & dried out (9 years old)…
I just got some white MicroMark Masking as I could not find the above one from the retailers I common.
I will give it a try.
I also have used ultra thin Gunsmith & FIber Glassing Release Agents, they are water thin & need to be applied a couple times if used for paint masking.

The issue I take with white glue, is that it may shrink & part off the surface & cause bleed with thin paints like weathering washes, etc.
I have never tried it but that would be my fear.

If you do try it, please let us know the results!

Didn’t think of the shrink factor of white glue. Just thought of the factor that it sticks fairly well to non porous surfaces but will peel off. Rubber cement may be another way to go. Micro sol masking is water base also & I haven’t seen anything about shrinkage. I’ll post the results, may be a while. just got 2 '53 varney Studebaker models (HO) that have to be modified before painting. Really surprised at the detail on these early models. just have to lower the body & add panels under the bumpers. They are clear plastic & would like to mask the glass. jerry

White glue is a terrible masking fluid. I have used it on windows and then ended up damaging the plastic when trying to get the glue off. Apparently, a toothpick is harder than the plastic used to make windows.

Buy commercial masking fluid. It will work much better.
