Need info on IC&E’s Mason City yard. Location is a big one, bui I also need to know if there is any chance of getting permission to enter the yard.
IC&E is located in the center of town. Follow U.S. 65 south from Downtown to 10th Street, or the first drive after you go under the viaduct. Turn left right at the Diamond Vogel paint shop and follow that alley. The ICE yard is there, however the office is on the north end on 9th.
The yard is posted no trespassing so visit the office prior. The yard is not all that big, and you can see a lot from the streets. One spot to watch both IC&E and UP is at the Bear Trap. Look at any google map to find that interlocking as well as the Iowa Traction RR, all freight electric.
