I’ve been lucky enough to obtain a True Lines Train C-Liner A unit with DCC & sound. I also have a TLT C-Liner B unit with no DCC.
I wish to add a decoder to the B unit, but from what I have been reading, only a specific decoder or two will match up with the QSI DCC & sound decoder in the A unit.
The printing on the QSI chip reads:
114-1V7-14-3
C LINER
2006 QSI
Any help in this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.
Where did you read that? By specific did they mean a particular size decoder due to space limitations in the engine? Unless there is something special going on, you should be able to install the non-sound decoder of your choice, making sure your choice will fit of course. You would likely have to speed match the engines, but even two identical locos sometimes need to be speed matched.
Any decoder with programmable speed tables will work. I use Digitrax decoders for applications like this.

It was speed matching that I was referring to, although I was not knowledgeable enough to say so.
