Matching OOP Paints

Yet another help request to my forum friends.

I am looking to build a BN GP-35 using some Athearn BB pieces. (I have used enough GP-35 drives that I have gotten pretty good at working with those drives. My 8 Tythearn GP20s use Athearn 35 drives.) Microscale’s cross-reference chart suggests using Gunze Sangyo’s 66 (Bright Green) to replace Floquil’s Burlington Northern Green. Has anyone out there used the Gunze Sangyo line of paints and what do they think of the quality? (I happen to have the MR “Hobby Paint Roundup” article and that line was not discussed.) Next question: How does one go about obtaining that particular line in the US?

In the alternative: Does anyone have a better color match for BN Green other than the Gunze Sangyo paint that can be also be brush-painted? I have found that I don’t like Tamiya Colors. At least to me, they don’t cover well. OTOH, I really like the Humbrol Colors. I have a long-term project that uses two of their colors and have found that I love the coverage that those paints give. (The paints remind me of the old Polly S/Polly Scale paints. As a result, I have ordered 4 bottles in some other needed colors that should be arriving this Friday.)

As usual, thank you for any assistance the forums can provide.

FRRYKid:

I have never heard of them, but here is one US source:

Quite the range of colours!

One problem: The chart lied in one aspect. The paint as listed in the chart is shown as flat. But on the referenced site, it is shown as gloss. (And I stink with trying to brush flat finishes.)

I guess I need info on my alternative.

I’m a bit confused. When I look at the chart #66 is listed as a gloss finish. I gather from your comment

that you are looking for a gloss finish.

By the way, I’m no good at brush painting flat paint either![swg][(-D]

If I confused everyone, my apologies. I am very good at flat paints. I am lousy when it comes to applying overcoat flat finshes (e.g. Testors Dullcoat etc) with a brush. (And trying to use spray cans where I am is almost impossible for a good prtion of the year.) While many people insist you have to have a gloss finish to properly apply decals, I have only ever had decals “silver” twice.
