Matching Units Speed

Hi Everyone

I hope your all enjoying your summer!

I picked up an Athearn Genesis F7A&B units. Both powered with DCC Tsunami. I’m trying to match their speed so they can run together well. I placed them about a foot apart from each other. For their deceleration, It’s perfect. I was able to set CV4 accordingly.

For acceleration, they START perfectly in sync. As I run them though, the B unit eventually closes the gap and links up to the A. Now mind you it takes about 12 to 15 ft for the B to catch the A.(This also depends on increasing the speed) So it’s a gradual overtaking. I know CV 2 & 3 deal with acceleration? But again they do match up well as they accelerate. I think I have to match their speed. This is were I need the help

Thanks

First off, speed matching is first done with cv3,4=0. Then you adjust start voltage and set the top end speed. With Tsunamis, the top end speed is controlled through a 28 step speed table. Most other decoders use cv5 and 6 to control max and mid speed respectively. From what you are describing, your units are close enough. However, fur future reference, consider JMRI to speed match your locos. David B
