May 15th, Will you be ready!

Sorry I’ve been away…I expect less busy times ahead.

Just a reminder of our “gentleman’s (and Ladies) agreement” to have a photography session on the First running day of the year!

Many said May 15th…I expect lots of pics. I’ll even host some of your pics on my blog if you’d like so more pics can go up.

Thanks,

Capt Carrales

My first running day of the year was the first day of the year.

i have to agree with Curmudgeon, their is pictures of my GRR posted FOR THE NEW YEAR. i ran alittle JANUARY 21ST., then it got windy had to stop ,F J AND G stopped by my house to see my lay outs , it’s under ben the HERSHEY syrup man, was posted JANUARY 23 06 BEN

Oh, I know…but it would be nice to have May 15th as a day when we all post again at once. It will give everyone a chance to sho woff their winter works and Spring line.

Sort of a promenade of lines.

I’ll be ready!

Hopefully I’ll be able to do so by then as I’m in planning stages (most of the inital track sitting in garage, my 1 loco and 2 cars in the basement), and constant planning goin on in the brain. here in IA we have had some really warm weather lately ( high40’s and low 50’s F temps) and Ive been out doing some prelim planning/yard clean up/ “spring prep” either way I’m looking forward to posting wherever Im at, at that point.

Capt., I have a confession to make…it’s been unusually mild this winter…usually my railroad gets buried in at least a foot of snow in November, which then freezes and becomes an ever-deepening glacier until some time in March. But this January has been wild…temperatures in the 50’s, and no snow.
So I caved in, got out the old 2010 starter set engine, now 22 years old…all I did for preparation was pick up some debris from the track. I didn’t clean the rails, just put Old Faithful on the track and turned up the power. It ran!! No problem. Three cheers for LGB track…it’s completely black now, even the railheads. But the loco ran, and after a while, I began to reduce the power until it ran at a crawl. It never stalled.
Two days later, another exceptionally warm day, so I ran a short train.
And then I let the RR go back into hibernation. May 15 will be the ‘official’ date. Sorry I cheated!!!

Your “warm weather” has been our coldest day this year.

Oh…don’t worry. May 15 will be the day to have a special run for the “Start of the Season.” By then all winters will have subsided and we can have a pagent of photos here on the forum.

I look forward to it…

Capt Carrales

So what yer saying is that the END of the season for many of us…is May 14th[:D][;)]

I can live with that, Last run on the 14th, 1st run on the 15th[8D]

Hey vsmith I was just in your smoggy town last week on biz, (unfortuantely never left he hotel except for dinnr one night) I was hopeing for more free time to go check out the place/ see if there is any G hobby shops there. Unfortunately no time/energy /idea where to look after 10 hrs meetings every day. If I had thought about it I should have posted on here for info…maybe next year if they send me there again…

Thats too bad you couldnt make a side trip up to San Val hobbies in Van Nuys, definetly worth the trip[;)]

I got shot down, 4 year old grandson came up from Virginny last weekend! I would have faced a grandpop recall vote had he not had trains running! Maybe I’ll have some more track down by then!

Hey, May 15th is my birthday.

Excellent…now we have a more official REASON to have a good photo session. We have our pretext!!!
