Just got the May issue of Trains Magazine in today’s mail. But with
everything else going on here today, have not had a chance to look
at it yet: haven’t even flipped through it. But from the cover, looks to
be a very interesting issue.
Not yet for me in Colorado, checkin the mail-box everyday, but no sigh of it
…Wonderful article of Sand Patch area of railroading…near my home region of railroading…
I’m still waiting for mine to come in.
Nice issue with good article on the Adirondak Railroad and their “saving” some F units including FL9’s and a F10
My issue usually comes a week or two after others get thiers[:(].I am anxiously waiting by the mailbox.[:p].
That’s odd, mine came on Sat. (though I didn’t get it in until Sun. morning). I’m suprised that there would be that much difference in delivery time for the state.
All in all, a supurbe issue though.
…Got mine Saturday…but it varies as much as 10 days as to when I receive it.
Hi folks- I usually don’t post here, but I came in especially to see what was being said about this months issue( just read mine) as compared to last months.
IMHO, this months issue is about 1000 times better than last months. Good articles, great pix, and overall just a better content. Last months article by the SP brakie was a big disappointment, it read more like a cheesy love story than a RR tale. Very little of April’s issue was as interesting as this months.
I’d love to hear other thoughts on this, so if you agree-or even-(gasp) DISagree, let me know.
Thanks for letting me stop by and put my 2 cents in.
Just got the May issue today. Only read the editor’s page and the letters so far, along with the recreational railroading section.
The editor’s comment about Tourist railroads being the “real thing”…when I rode the SDAE/SDIV/Carriso Gorge line last fall, one of the crew members was discussing all the training they had to go through to operate the trains. Sure, they don’t go that fast, and there are no “meets” en route, but all the other aspects of railroading are there. They do a good job of luring people “out to the middle of nowhere” about 50 miles east of San Diego. If you like rugged, lightly populated areas this is for you! But watch those summer months; it gets HOT out there.
As for the Recreational Railroading, I’m curious about the Lewis-and-Clark train from Portland to Astoria. Now there’s an idea for a long-weekend vacation.

Also got mine Sat.
CW & I generally get ours right at the ‘first’ of the month,
usually doesn’t vary much.
Have not had a chance to really look at ours,
too many other things going on around here.[|)][^]
I’m REALLY looking forward to an ‘upcoming’ issue
that will have Kathie Kube’s article on the L & I.[:p]
I liked the “cheesey love story” in the April issue and found it a real true to life railroader tale. But I loked the May issue too.
My May issues (Trains and MR) arrived Saturday, which (considering that it was already April) seemed a little late for them.
However, the article on Sand Patch couldn’t have been timed better–I have a trip on the Capitol Limited planned through there for May! My eyes will be open wide! AMG
I guess there is a difference…hmmm, i want mine NOW!!! and I’m waiting for Model Railroader too!
