MBTA adds snowplows to Red, Orange trains
Years ago the T would run trains all night and call them snow trains. They had scrapers to clear ice on the overhead wires and on the third rail. They had multiple Type 3 cars that were modified for plow duties and were used for years were scraped. After the blizzard of 78 shutdown they took some older cars and mounted snow blowers run by electric motors on the front of them vowing the T would not be stopped by snow again. A buddy of mine that had almost 40 years with the T told me all that equipment rusted away and was sold as scrap.
