“In total, sponsors are contributing more than $1.5 million in support to help cover the estimated $16 million cost of late night service.”
16 million… this will be cut back as needed. One Cannot expect full time “grass roots crowd-funding”
I’m glad to see service expanding, and I’m glad to see innovative funding ideas being tried out. Time will tell how successful they will be in the long run.
I must disagree with Bruce Bells comment about the funding. A local radio station in Austin, Tx has been on the air for 47+ years using donation based funding. I see this as a valid attempt to get this type of funding initiative into transportation and I’m all for it. If I lived in Boston, I’d whole heatedly sign up to be a sustaining supporter of this project.
If the people of Boston want more late night service that is fine. But they must pay the increased cost with higher fares not some pie in the sky fundraising idea like it was an opera or museum. We need to get real and give the taxpayers a break. There is just so much they can afford. You can count on me not to contribute anything to this boondoggle.
You’re putting the cart before the horse Robert. I would certainly be glad to have this service instead of paying the toll hogs on the Mass Pike-that’s where your real boondoggle is!
@Robert McGuire: Do you know who these passengers are? They’re TAXPAYERS! Shouldn’t they have late night service? Would you rather have them take taxis even though this more expensive? Or, should Boston and its suburbs roll up their sidewalks at night?
