Since the Downeaster can only go as far south as Haverhill MA and not to Boston on the affected weekends a novel and what seems to be a very constructive use of equipment has been developed by NNEPRA (Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority). Cut fares to $10.00 adult and $5.00 for kids for a one way anywhere between Haverhill and Brunswick ME. on the limited train schedule. Local print and radio advertising seems to produce substantial adult/child trainriders as seen last saturday from my vantage point as a volunteer station host in Dover NH. I look forward to some real stats.
