McKeen Motor Car

Does anyone make one of these?

Ready to run or kit? Or have any of you ever scratchbuilt one?

I haven’t seen one made by any of the manufacturers yet not in G anyway. I’ve thought abotu scratchbuilding one but it’s going to easily be at least a year before I can get to it. Find the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s web sire and have a look around there. They are restoring one right now.

I plan on going to the Nv state railway museum[:D] later this year on one of our trips to Reno, I will try to get some photos, as I too have always been interested in this car[:P]. I may have more info still packed away at the Reno house, but it will be some time before I am ready to unpack books. I’m a pack rat when it comes to train info.

I think all garden model railways should have one of these types of things. I only run European stuff and i would like a “rail motor” type thing myself but they are very expenisve for what they are; considering all my stuff has a decoder and sound.

I’d like to scratchbuild one someday, just because they look so cool. They also look like they’d be relatively easy to make. I’ve seen plans for them in an old issue of the “Narrow Guage and Shortline Gazette”.

UW:

Heck, I’ve never even seen anything like that. Got any more photos? History? I really go for the oddball looking stuff.

A buddy of mine has one in HO, brass…and there is one of those on evilBay right now (http://cgi.ebay.com/HO-Scale-Brass-55-McKeen-Motor-Car_W0QQitemZ140090707178QQihZ004QQcategoryZ484QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) Don’t think there was ever one made in G

Here is a site that shows them on several different rail lines. I first discovered them as part of the Lakeside & Marblehead in Ohio.

This link I got from the eBay listing…very informative and it’s got a detailed diagram…might be just what I need to scratch build!
